CHILDREN

                 Our vision

for the children and young people in our church...

Bringing in

To welcome the children and their families and friends to the church.

Building up:

To introduce them to the knowledge and love of God,  encouraging them into active Christian lives so they grow in faith.

Sending out:

To encourage them to become not just passive Christians but people making an impact on society, church & the wider community.

To the glory of God and the increase of His Kingdom

  YOUNGER   CHURCH

All our work with children and young people comes under the umbrella of Younger Church .  There is a crèche every Sunday.  Bubbles, Splash and Xstream meet at St. Mary's during the 10.30 a.m. service every Sunday except the 2nd, when there is a family service in Bures and Assington.  We all join in with Holiday Club in the summer holidays, and are part of the church family, but learn about God in our own different ways.  Contact Katharine King (01787 227313) for further information.

The very youngest children come to Stepping Stones once a month (4th Wednesday at 2.15 p.m.) and play in the Crèche during services.

When you are 3, you become a member of Bubbles.

We meet in the Tower Room with Splash, to sing our favourite songs.  We love actions and have a lot of fun with them.  Sometimes we pray together for people we know who need God’s help.

Then we meet on our own, and hear the Bible Story from our special story books.  We use Bubbles Big Sheets to help us learn about Jesus, and we love to draw pictures and make things to help us to remember the stories.

When you get to Year 2, you join SPLASH!

After we’ve had some worship with Bubbles, we go up the tower to the Ringing Chamber, where we hear the Bible story for the day.  We love to act out the stories, and we sometimes dress up and pretend we are the characters.  We have colourful worksheets to help us to remember what we’ve heard about.  It’s great to meet our friends there, before we join everyone back in church for the rest of the service.

When you are in Year 4, you become a member of Xstream.

Sometimes we meet in the school - we play games outside with Rock Solid, and have some worship and a prayer, and then we go to our own room to look at our Bibles and learn more about our faith.  It’s good to have lots of space to run around, but we do like to do puzzles and quizzes too, and talk about what we believe.  On 3rd Sundays we have a shorter session, now in the Vicarage.

The other really good thing about Xstream is that on your birthday you get Maltesers!!

 ROC SOLID

Our oldest (and definitely coolest!) group, starts when you are in Year 7.  We are a group of young people, who have been coming to church with our parents for ages, and are now wanting to begin to take on a faith in a more grown up way.  We enjoy meeting twice a month in the school.  We usually play a few games - whatever the leaders dream up for us to do, and we have worship and prayer.  We read the Bible and discuss how it can have an impact on our lives.

On 3rd Sundays we join the ‘older’ members of the church of the Family Communion.  On 5th Sundays we sometimes have a Worship Workshop, when we learn to play and sing new songs, and put together our own service (including the sermon!).

Many of us help at Holiday Club, and play in the Youth Band

We have a great social calendar, too....

Highlights of this year have been the night walk (9 of us plus 2 adults walking 14 miles following footpaths from Stoke by Clare to Bures from midnight to 5.30 a.m.!), a swimming party, a day on the beach at Frinton and a barbecue and bonfire at the home of one of our leaders.
